One of the outstanding Azerbaijani pianists of the last century was a pupil of the piano school of R. Sirovich, M. Brenner and Y. Milstein, Professor Oktay Abasguliyev, who devoted his life to teaching within the walls of the Baku Musical Academy named after Uz. Hajibekov (BMA). This legendary personality brought up many bright and original musicians and laureates of international competitions.

The concert took place at the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic named after M. Magomayev. Opening the event and welcoming the guests, the rector of BMA named after Uz. Hajibeyov, People's Artist of the USSR and the Republic of Azerbaijan, Professor Farhad Badalbeyli noted that “Oktay Abasguliyev was an outstanding personality with a rich spiritual and intellectual potential , who perfectly knew not only world musical, but also fiction, could quote for a long time the books and works he loved most. their strengths and weaknesses. The concert program of the evening was rich and thoughtful. Conductor, People's Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Professor Yalchin Adigezalov, with great inspiration, led the symphony orchestra named after. Uz. Gadzhibekov, almost without looking into the score. His conducting technique was distinguished by its bright and spectacular majesty, complete immersion in the dramaturgy of the work. It seemed that while performing the overture to the opera "The Mastersingers of Nuremberg" by R. Wagner and "Concerto in A Minor" for piano and orchestra by R. One O.Abasguliyev’s favorite student, whom he called young Van Cliburn, the laureate of international competitions Tofik Shikhiyev (piano) showed himself to be a serious and thoughtful pianist in his first appearance on the stage of the Philharmonic. pianist, but also as a member and chairman of the jury of international competitions and festivals, brilliantly performed the "Dance of Death" with the orchestra of F. Liszt. The performance of the laureate of international competitions Tutu Aydinoglu with M. Ravel's concerto for piano and orchestra for the left hand was a real revelation, and as an encore the pianist played an unusual work for the prepared piano by the famous Turkish pianist Fazil Say. a powerful game in which love and respect for their Teacher intertwined, the desire to be worthy of the title of representatives of the Abasguli piano school. The audience, enlightened by the brilliant music, applauded the musicians for a long time, calling them to the Encore and not wanting to part with the magical world that the wonderful Azerbaijani musicians gave them. It was a true celebration of the sublime and eternal art of the Classics! The concert once again proved that the Azerbaijani piano school is in safe hands, it is successfully developing and meets the highest international standards.
